Polaris is the framework to help FBN members deliver on our Pledge for a Sustainable Future. It presents an opportunity for family businesses to demonstrate that beyond being ‘pro-family’, we are also ‘pro-business’, ‘pro-social’ and ‘pro-environment’ – a purposeful position that enables us to innovate for impact, lead change and build a ‘pro-values’ learning community. In the past year, we have collaborated with some of the leading names in the impact space including Al Gore, B Corp and Christiana Figueres, to build capacity, develop change agents and lead a global movement for family business to be a force for good. This year, we are happy to announce a partnership with the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.


At Saïd Business School, University of Oxford
The Ford Foundation-supported Research Programme on Corporate Ownership and Purpose is an integral component of Oxford Saïd’s research agenda. Under the aegis of a broader focus on a more inclusive capitalism, this programme is exploring how family ownership relates to the purpose, endurance, value, and conduct of corporations. The programme will identify how both financial and non-financial objectives can be embedded in family firms, with particular attention to how these issues evolve in times of corporate transition (such as restructuring or reorganisation) and instances of transfer and change, including the engagement of next generations. 


The Partnership
FBN is collaborating with a team of researchers from the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford to examine the relationship between purposeful ownership, corporate performance and impact. FBN has embarked on this partnership to further the Polaris movement, Family Business as a force for Good.
